Good evening. Allow me to briefly introduce myself. My blogger name is Jo Jo. I am a female American living on the West Coast of the US and am wondering what is happening to the country I grew up in. The paradigms of my youth, and that of other baby boomers, have changed so significantly in the past thirty-five years, that confusion and perplexity, never mind the depression, is redefining our upcoming retirement years.
If we get that far.
A former professional musician, I chose 'Blood Red and Going Down' as to borrow a song performed by Tanya Tucker as my blog name. It has interesting lyrics - my description of the USA today. I have two of my young sons and husband in a family band now - playing classic rock and country. For some reason, nobody wants to hear this song.
Substitute the mother for America - Babylon - the whore
The daddy represents the protective father image
The child is a baby boomer
Imagine the setting in the '60s after Kennedy was killed and we were betrayed by our own government in Vietnam and the beginning of the end of the idealistic American dream:
Chorus: That Georgia sun was blood red and going down
That Georgia sun was blood red and going down
Verse 1 : Daddy said, "Now come girl, we're heading down the road to Augusta"
And thinking through his clenched teeth, he called Mama's name, then he cussed her
He said: "Girl, you're young, but some dude has come along and stole your mother"
Ah, but you can't steal a willing mind whose mom is always looking for a lover.
Chorus
Verse 2: With dusty teardrops on his face, my daddy cried and big steps he was taking
And halfway running to keep up, my shorter legs were so tired...and shaking
"Where did I go wrong girl? Why would she leave us both this way?"
At times like these, a child of ten never know exactly what to say
Chorus
Verse 3: We searched in every barroom, and honky-tonk as well
And finally Daddy found them, but Lord, you know the rest is hard to tell
He sent me out to wait, but scared, I looked back through the door
And Daddy left them both, soaking up the sawdust on the floor
Chorus - twice
Haunting. The mother and the lover, to me, represent corporate America and its' lover, the military-industrial complex. The illicit lovers have abandoned the family and the child (the citizens) and now both deserve what "Daddy" does to them.
